Road Rage Escalates: Puerto Rico Driver Shoots Another after Minor Traffic Incident

A minor traffic incident in Puerto Rico turns deadly as road rage leads to a fatal shooting

Carolina - Puerto Rico. A disturbing incident of road rage in Puerto Rico shocked the country, as captured by security cameras in the "Carolina" neighborhood. The footage reveals a driver being fatally shot by another motorist after a heated dispute over a minor traffic collision.

The security camera footage captures the moment when two vehicles collided slightly. The SUV in the central lane forced the other vehicle in the left lane to stop. The driver of the first vehicle, visibly agitated, exits with a baseball bat and confronts the other driver, who is in a black pickup truck. After the initial confrontation, where the bat-wielding driver even strikes the vehicle, the driver of the black pickup, feeling threatened, draws a firearm, forcing his aggressor to step back.

Despite successfully deterring his attacker, the initially blocked driver, unsatisfied with his opponent's retreat, pursues and shoots him as he attempts to escape. After witnessing his assailant, now turned victim, lying on the pavement, the shooter approaches to deliver a second shot, seemingly to the back, leaving him sprawled a few meters from his vehicle and dangerously close to oncoming traffic.

After the two shots, the assailant returns to his vehicle, leaving the crime scene and abandoning his victim on the road. The victim was later identified as 36-year-old Carlos Misael Clemente Rosario.

Judge Arlene de la Matta Meléndez, of the Carolina First Instance Court, ruled to proceed with a trial against Juan Meléndez Suárez, charged with murdering Carlos Misael Clemente Rosario in an incident that occurred in front of a school in April 2022.

Meléndez Suárez faced a charge of mitigated murder under Article 95 of the Penal Code and two charges for carrying a firearm without a license and discharging a firearm, violating the Weapons Law.
