Two Men Imprisoned After Viral Footage of Armed Fight
Both men received prison sentences for their involvement in a fight that included dangerous weapons
Two men have been jailed after a street fight involving weapons in Morecambe, England, went viral online. Johnny Reid and David Jowett were charged for their involvement in a confrontation with machetes on Bartholomew Road in the Westgate area of the city.
The incident occurred on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at around 3:15 PM when the police were alerted to a fight involving two armed men, one wielding a zombie knife and the other a machete. The fight was filmed and quickly spread on social media, causing concern among local residents.
During the altercation, David Jowett sustained a neck wound. The swift response from officers allowed for the immediate arrest of both individuals involved.
Johnny Reid, 32, of Bartholomew Road, Morecambe, was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of wounding and threatening with a sharp object.
David Jowett, 27, of Lynden Avenue, Morecambe, admitted to charges of wounding and threatening with a bladed article, receiving a 25-month sentence.
Sergeant Adie Knowles of West Police said, "This incident caused considerable concern in the local area, and I hope that the prison sentences handed down this week will reassure the public that we have taken this incident seriously and will ensure justice is served."
