Prosecutor's investigation: Nicolás Petro spends 200 million monthly, but his salary is only 20 million

The son of President Gustavo Petro faces charges of excessive spending and illicit enrichment

La Fiscalía General de la Nación has charged Nicolás Petro and his ex-wife, Daysuris Vásquez, for crimes of illicit enrichment and money laundering. During the indictment hearing, the Prosecutor's Office revealed details of the excessive expenses made by Nicolás Petro between July and December 2022.

According to the investigation, Nicolás Petro spent more than $1 billion in a period of six months, while he only had $280 million in his bank account, a situation that has caused questions about the origin of these funds.

The prosecutor in the case stated that Daysuris Vásquez was the one who managed the money that Nicolás Petro received from various sources, including significant sums from Samuel Santander Lopesierra Gutiérrez, the "Turco" Hilsaca and businessmen from Cúcuta. In addition, the purchase of high-value goods was mentioned, such as a mansion in the La Herradura condominium, a house in Tubará and a luxurious Mercedes Benz vehicle.

The authorities highlighted the accelerated increase in the level of expenses of Nicolás Petro, who spent approximately 200 million pesos a month, despite having a monthly income of around 20 million pesos.

The investigation also revealed that Nicolás Petro had no recorded financial obligations between 2020 and 2023, raising further questions about the origin of the funds for his expenses. Cash payments, rent advances and payments to employees were mentioned without clear explanation.

The Prosecutor emphasized that no legal activities were found to justify the income of more than 1,000 million pesos that Petro had spent. In addition, he pointed out that the phrase "We have to move the cards or we pay in cash" was common between Nicolás and Daysuris, which raised suspicions about the nature of these payments.

The case of Nicolás Petro is in full investigation, and the Prosecutor's Office seeks to clarify the origin of the funds used in the excessive expenses and the illicit enrichment of the son of President Petro.
