New massacre in Ecuador: Four people dead and one injured

A new episode of violence shakes the province of Orellana in Ecuador, with an armed attack that has left four people dead in the Joya de los Sachas canton. The event, which occurred in an entertainment center on 10 de Agosto Street, has left a person seriously injured, whose health status is under medical care at a local health center.

The people present were ambushed by an armed group that used military weapons and clothing, as well as grenades and long-range rifles. Neighbors in the area reported experiencing a moment of great tension due to the violence unleashed by gunshots and grenade explosions.

The Attorney General's Office of Ecuador has announced the opening of an investigation into this unfortunate event, while the Criminalistics Police carries out the removal of the bodies at the scene of the incident. So far, no arrests have been reported in relation to this violent act. It is suspected that this fact could be attributed to a war between terrorist gangs.

This incident adds to another that occurred recently in the same town, where seven people were found dead in similar circumstances. The escalation of violence in the province worries the authorities, especially in a context in which the country is preparing for a popular consultation and referendum, scheduled for April 21, to address security and employment issues.
