10-year-old boy crushed to death by 340-pound foster mother
A 10-year-old boy in Michigan died after his 350-pound foster mother sat on him as punishment. Woman faces charges
A 10-year-old boy, Dakota Stevens, died in Michigan after his 340-pound foster mother, Jennifer Wilson, sat on him for five minutes as punishment for "misbehaving."
According to the police report, the boy had run away from home that morning and, upon being recovered by Wilson, refused to go inside, throwing himself on the front lawn.
In response, the woman decided to immobilize him with her body while calling her social worker. During those minutes, Dakota screamed desperately until he stopped moving.
Wilson told authorities she thought the boy was pretending to be hurt, but when she turned him over, she noticed his eyelids were pale. Alarmed, she asked another of her children to call 911.
Authorities reviewed footage from the home's Ring camera, which shows Wilson sitting on Dakota's head and neck as his small body struggles unsuccessfully.
His screams fade to silence. Realizing what had happened, the woman panics and screams the boy's name repeatedly.
When police arrived, Dakota was motionless and pulseless. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors tried unsuccessfully to save him.
Two days later, he was taken off a ventilator. His death occurred just a month after he was placed in Wilson's custody.
Wilson faces a possible prison sentence of up to six years. Meanwhile, the Department of Child Services has suspended his foster care license and is considering its final revocation. Three other minors lived in the home and are now under review by the authorities.
