Two young Venezuelan women are being investigated as possible femicide

The Mexico City Attorney General's Office is investigating the death of two young Venezuelan women in Tlalpan who were found dead

The Mexico City Attorney General's Office (FGJCDMX) has begun an investigation under the femicide protocol after the discovery of two young women dead in San Miguel Topilejo, in the Tlalpan municipality. The victims, identified as Steph and Su, aged 19 and 20, were of Venezuelan origin and had come to Mexico in search of better opportunities.

On Tuesday, July 30, a citizen alerted 911 about a vehicle that abandoned a plastic bag in a grassy area on Camino de Herradura, Topilejo, and quickly left the scene. In response, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) went to the area and found two young women inside the bag, who had blood stains and burns. The paramedics confirmed that the young women no longer had vital signs, and the area was cordoned off to allow the arrival of the authorities.

Although it was initially reported that the victims were teenagers of approximately 15 years old, they were later identified as Steph and Su, Venezuelan young women of 19 and 20 years old.

So far, the authorities have confirmed that there were no reports of the victims being missing. Ulises Lara López, head of the CDMX Prosecutor's Office, said that a bank deposit record related to money transfers from the United States to Central America and the Caribbean is being analyzed.

Steph and Sue were childhood friends who had emigrated to Mexico from Venezuela in the hope of finding better opportunities. According to news reports, both had a tattoo of the Powerpuff Girls as a symbol of their friendship.

The Investigative Police (PDI) has begun the corresponding investigations, looking for witnesses and analyzing nearby video surveillance cameras. In addition, forensic personnel and experts were present at the scene to remove the bodies.
