Man who punched Asian woman has long arrest record

We present a clear example of how justice rules in favor of criminals or violent people

Alexander Wright, 49, is once again in the spotlight due to his long history of violence and his ability to evade justice in New York. Wright, who has been arrested 41 times in the past, has carried out a series of violent attacks but has been repeatedly released due to mental health issues.

The most famous case that has sparked outrage occurred in June 2021, when Wright was arrested for beating a 55-year-old Asian-American woman in Lower Manhattan. This attack was captured on video and caused commotion in the city. However, despite the evidence, Wright was declared unfit to stand trial and was released.

Since then, Wright has continued to carry out new attacks. In 2022, he was accused of brutally assaulting Anthony Nelson, a 35-year-old MTA employee, after Nelson attempted to stop co-workers at the Pelham Bay Park train station on August 11, 2022. The beating resulted in Nelson's hospitalization with a broken collarbone and dislocated nose.

Bronx Supreme Court Justice Connie Morales ruled that Wright would not be tried on assault charges due to his mental state. This decision generated criticism and concern in the community.

A month before hitting the Asian woman, Wright was detained for throwing boiling coffee at two traffic officers in Manhattan.

Wright's arrest history includes other crimes, including assault, disorderly conduct, petit larceny, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He had also been reported to authorities as an "emotionally disturbed person" on three occasions.

Anthony Nelson's mother, Lisa Nelson, has called Wright "a threat to society after she sent her son to the hospital."

The Alexander Wright case has raised questions about the criminal justice system, the need to change laws and give more favor to vulnerable people against violent people.
