Former Bolivian President Evo Morales (2006-2019) denounced that his vehicle was shot at on Sunday, while he was heading to the radio station where he hosts his weekend radio show.
According to Morales' statements, the attack occurred at 6:25 in the morning (10:25 GMT) on the route between the towns of Villa Tunari and Lauca Ñ, in the Tropic of Cochabamba, when two unknown vehicles chased and shot at his armored truck, firing 14 shots.
During the attack, the driver of the vehicle was wounded in the head, and the incident was recorded on video, which shows bullet impacts on the front and rear windows of the vehicle.
This video has circulated widely on social media, raising concern among the Bolivian population. Morales, who shared details of the incident through the coca-growing radio station Kawsachun Coca, described the event as an attempt on his life.
The incident occurred a few hours after the Bolivian government issued a statement accusing Morales of leading “destabilizing actions” in the country, pointing out that these seek to “put the recovered democracy at risk” and represent “a serious threat to Bolivia and the region.”
The Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community to remain vigilant about the activities of the former president, amid a series of roadblocks promoted by groups allied to Morales in recent weeks.
