Four People Killed After Being Hit by Train in Karawang
Tragedy struck in Karawang, West Java, as four people, including two children, lost their lives after being struck by a train
A tragic railway accident claimed the lives of four people on Sunday, September 22, 2024, in the village of Daringo, Kota Baru district, Karawang, West Java, Indonesia. The victims, among them two children, were hit by the Fajar Utama train traveling on the Cirebon-Jakarta route.
The accident occurred around 7:00 AM local time as the victims were on the tracks. According to witnesses, the individuals were playing near the edge of the railway and were unable to react in time to the oncoming train.
Among the deceased were Anita Andini, 37, a resident of East Sukahati, East Jomin village, Kota Baru district; Muhamad Alikhasan, a 7-year-old boy from the same area; Ted Alfarizi, another 7-year-old from East Sukahati; and Bahanan, 65, a resident of Daringo, South Pangulah village, Kota Baru district.
A witness at the scene, Karya, recounted that Bahanan had attempted to save the two children moments before the impact but tragically became a victim himself. The accident was so severe that Ted Alfarizi’s body became trapped in the train’s undercarriage and was transported as far as Tanjungrasa station in Subang.
Local authorities, led by the Kota Baru and Karawang police, are investigating the accident. The identification team promptly evacuated the bodies to the Karawang Regional Hospital for autopsies.
Videos of the incident, captured by bystanders, have circulated on social media. The footage shows the victims sitting on the tracks and playing shortly before the accident. Despite the train’s rapid approach, they did not have enough time to react.
The body of Ted Alfarizi, which was carried to Subang due to the impact, has since been evacuated, and following the autopsies, the victims’ remains will be returned to their families for burial in their hometowns.
