Shock in Misiones: 8-year-old girl identified her attacker before dying

Fabiana was murdered in Misiones. Before dying, she identified her attacker, a neighbor who is already in custody

The town of 25 de Mayo, in Misiones, is experiencing days of deep pain and indignation after the murder of Fabiana Sirino, an 8-year-old girl who was murdered when she was returning from school. Before dying, Fabiana managed to identify the attacker, a neighbor of the family who is now in custody.

The crime occurred last Friday, when Fabiana was returning home alone after a school day. On the way, she was intercepted by Marcelo Daniel Muller, known as “Nanico”, 34 years old, who dragged her to a nearby wooded area. There, the man attacked Fabiana, leaving her seriously injured and fleeing the scene believing her dead.

Fabiana was found still alive by her father and brothers about 200 meters from her home. In her last breath, she identified her attacker saying: “Nanico did this to me.” Despite efforts to save her, Fabiana died at the Samic Hospital in Oberá due to a “hypovolemic shock” caused by the multiple wounds.

The case, in charge of Judge Pedro Piriz of the Court of Instruction No. 1 of Oberá, has mobilized the community and the victim's family. Fabiana's parents, accompanied by lawyer Federico Esquivel, have become plaintiffs in the case to provide information and collaborate with the investigation.

“It is an atrocious and unprecedented act. We are committed to achieving justice for Fabiana,” the lawyer declared to a local media outlet.

The main suspect, “Nanico,” remains in custody and will be questioned this Thursday. Neighbors in the area reported that days before the crime, Muller was seen hanging around Fabiana's school, carrying a backpack and behaving suspiciously. In addition, he tried to divert attention after the attack by approaching the scene of the discovery with an apparently supportive attitude, according to the family.

The autopsy confirmed the cause of Fabiana's death and the results of biological tests are awaited to advance the formal charge against the detainee. Although the main hypothesis indicates that he acted alone, other lines of investigation are not ruled out.
