Arrest and charges filed after shooting on East Tidwell Road

One individual arrested and charged following a shooting at 600 East Tidwell Road. The officer was unharmed after firing his service weapon


Houston, Texas – Authorities have arrested and charged Christopher Michael Rodriguez, 36, in connection with a shooting that took place at 600 East Tidwell Road around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.

Houston Police Officer J. Eakins, who fired his service weapon during the incident, was unharmed. Eakins, assigned to the North Patrol Division and serving since November 2020, responded to gunshots he heard while patrolling the area.

Upon arriving at the scene, Eakins observed Rodriguez armed with a gun and running in front of a store. Despite repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon, Rodriguez fled and at one point turned toward the officer with the gun in his hand. Fearing for his safety, the officer fired several times, wounding Rodriguez.




Rodriguez was taken into custody and received immediate medical attention before being transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that Christopher Michael Rodriguez had fired his gun into the air after an altercation with another man.

Rodriguez faces charges of aggravated assault on a public servant, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the 230th State District Court.
