15-Year-Old Student Kills Two Teachers After Returning to School Armed

A 15-year-old student murdered two teachers at a school in Michoacán after returning armed with an AR-15 rifle

An armed attack inside a school shook Lázaro Cárdenas, where a 15-year-old student, Osmer H., shot and killed two of his teachers after being denied entry for being late. The incident occurred at a private high school called Preparatoria Antón Makárenko and revealed a series of warning signs that were ignored before the tragedy.

According to official reports, the minor initially arrived at the school after hours and was not allowed entry. Minutes later, he returned armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and opened fire in the entrance area, where teachers and students were gathered. The gunshots caused immediate panic inside the school.

The victims were identified as Mariana del Rosario Sagrero Chávez, 36, and Tatiana Madrigal Bedoya, 37. One of them reportedly tried to intervene, while the other was caught in the crossfire. Both died inside the school, in front of students who witnessed the scene.

Hours before the attack, the teenager had posted several videos on his social media accounts in which he appeared posing with the weapon used. In the recordings, he displayed familiarity with the rifle and left disturbing messages that, according to the investigation, did not raise any timely alerts. Content linked to extremist online communities was also found.

Authorities confirmed that the young man is the stepson of a member of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), although the serviceman stated that the weapon did not belong to him. At the crime scene, a high-powered rifle and a magazine were seized, both for the exclusive use of the armed forces in Mexico.

The teenager was detained by the Michoacán police and will be prosecuted under juvenile law. Meanwhile, the Attorney General's Office continues to investigate how he obtained the weapon and whether there were any omissions that could have prevented the attack.

The case raises concerns about the increasing exposure of minors to violent content, illegal access to weapons, and the lack of intervention in response to warning signs on social media. Just a few months ago, in the same area, another student had disseminated similar threats against teachers, which now takes on an even more alarming significance.
