Police Officer Killed in Attempted Robbery

On the night of May 13, in a bar in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago, Police Officer Dale Mayers showed bravery and determination when he confronted an assailant, paying the ultimate price for his courage.

Mayers, most recently assigned to the Arima police station, was enjoying an evening with his wife and a friend at Unique Bar when they were confronted by an armed man who announced a robbery.

Facing the imminent threat, Mayers did not hesitate to defend his family and friend. He drew his authorized firearm and shot the assailant, wounding him.

Tragically, Mayers was shot in the chest during the exchange of gunfire. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he passed away while receiving treatment at Chaguanas District Hospital.

Upon arriving at the scene of the shooting, authorities found evidence suggesting that Mayers had wounded the assailant before he fled.

A man identified as Meeshack "Smokey" Marcus, from Nelson Street in Port of Spain, was later found at Port of Spain General Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Under police custody, Marcus is receiving medical treatment for his injuries and will be charged with homicide in connection with the death of Dale Mayers.

Dale Mayers' sacrifice will not be forgotten, remembered as a hero who gave his life protecting others.
