A tourist loses his life after being hit by a boat

A tragedy occurred last Sunday afternoon, June 2, in Cholón, Cartagena, when Juan David Cervantes Vega, a 28-year-old young man, died after being hit by the propeller of the TITI-TI boat. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

According to the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), the accident occurred while the boat was carrying out a departure maneuver with several crew members on board.

The captain did not realize that Cervantes was in the water, and as he retreated, the propeller severely hit him in his right leg, causing fatal injuries.

Witnesses reported that Cervantes, who was celebrating a birthday with friends, suddenly jumped into the sea before the accident.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing an injured Cervantes being transferred by boat to the Las Gaviotas dock in Manga. “Given the emergency, the injured person was helped and transferred by a unit from the Cartagena Coast Guard Station to a medical center,” Dimar reported.

The Navy immobilized the boat and left it at the disposal of the authorities to continue the investigation.

Juan David Cervantes Vega, originally from Arjona, Bolívar, was a chef and entrepreneur. On social networks he shared his passion for cooking and his trips to the sea.

His tragic death has been mourned by many, including the Festival del Bollo de Mazorca, where he participated as a jury in its first edition. “Thank you for believing and supporting our festival. You were one of our jurors in the first version and you really gave height to the event.
