Santa Marta Police thwart robbery attempt and kill one of the robbers
John Pachón Ortiz lost his life instantly and Yerson Macchy Garizao is injured at the Avidanti clinic
The Santa Marta Metropolitan Police, under the direction of Colonel Yasid Alberto Montaño Granados, continues to implement strategies to combat the scourge of thefts and robberies in the city. On this occasion, a brave agent from the Criminal Investigation Section (Sijín) thwarted a robbery attempt and killed one of the criminals, while the accomplice was injured and was transferred to a private clinic in Santa Marta under police custody.
The incident took place in the afternoon on 11th Street and 4th Street in the tourist sector of El Rodadero. Two criminals, identified as John Jairo Pachón Ortiz and Yerson Eduardo Macchy Garizao, approached a pedestrian with the intention of robbing him of his belongings, threatening him with a firearm.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Yerson Macchy, who was working as a grillman, got off the motorcycle they were traveling on and pointed at the citizen to intimidate him. Then, both criminals prepared to flee on the motorcycle on which they had arrived.
In a surprising turn of events, a Sijín agent who was near the scene observed the situation and acted quickly. He unholstered his personal firearm and shot the alleged criminals before they could escape. John Pachón Ortiz lost his life instantly, leaving his body in the middle of the public road next to the motorcycle between his legs. For his part, Yerson Macchy Garizao was injured and was immediately taken to the emergency room of the Avidanti clinic.
The Police quadrant surveillance unit attached to the El Rodadero station cordoned off the scene to avoid interference from onlookers and guarantee the integrity of the evidence. Subsequently, officials from the mobile criminalistics unit of the CTI of the Attorney General's Office carried out the technical inspection of the corpse and after completing the necessary procedures, they transferred the body to the Morgue of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.
The Police Commander announced the opening of an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the time, manner and place of the incident. In addition, security cameras in the area are being reviewed as part of the relevant procedures.
