The north of Cali witnessed a tragic incident that has left the city in dismay. On the afternoon of August 30, at Carrera 1 with Calle 52, the death of a young man was reported in circumstances that point to an alleged act of theft.

The young man, identified as Orlyn Cuéllar, 21, according to some sources, would have intercepted a passerby with the intention of committing a robbery. However, his action was surprised by an individual who apparently turned out to be a plainclothes police officer. The latter reacted forcefully, firing a weapon and hitting the young man in the head.

Videos captured by witnesses to the event show the moments after the shooting, but due to their shocking nature, they will not be broadcast by the local media.

Orlyn Cuéllar was taken to a clinic in an attempt to save his life, but unfortunately he died hours later, on the morning of August 31, according to information from the media.

What makes this case especially intriguing is that, according to information circulating on social networks, the young man who was killed had a past in soccer. There is talk that he was part of the Carlos Sarmiento Lora school and that he had even traveled to Brazil before the pandemic to try out for the Gremio team.

“A boy born in 2002, a very well-spoken boy, who dreamed of playing in Colombian professional soccer and who was a forward 9, one of those Colombian and international soccer needs. He always dreamed of taking his mother forward and his father, ”shared one of the physical trainers of the Carlos Sarmiento Lora School in a radio interview.

In response to the events, the Cali Metropolitan Police spoke out to clarify what happened. According to the commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, Daniel Gualdrón, an officer on rest was intercepted by three armed motorcyclists in the Palmeras del Norte neighborhood. Although the officer did not resist, one of the criminals was shot while trying to flee.

Although the young man killed had a record for theft and conspiracy to commit a crime, his identity was not revealed by the authorities. So far, the Carlos Sarmiento Lora school has not issued an official statement about the incident.
