Attack on the headquarters of the Registry leaves an official dead

An angry crowd attacked the registry office, a man regardless of whether there were people inside, set fire to the headquarters

In a regrettable series of events in Gamarra, Cesar, angry protesters set fire to the headquarters of the Registrar's Office, resulting in the death of Duperly Arévalo Carrascal, an employee of the agency. The attack occurred amid tensions that arose after the revocation of Fernando Márquez's candidacy for mayor by the En Marcha party.

The Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, declared that Arévalo Carrascal was found dead in the bathroom of the facility. The National Electoral Council (CNE) had revoked Márquez's candidacy due to alleged contractual irregularities with a local public service company.

In reaction to the revocation, supporters of the candidate gathered at the headquarters of the Registry, where tragically, some individuals decided to set fire to the building. "We have identified them," Velasco assured.

In addition to the loss of Arévalo Carrascal, three other officials suffered injuries. It is believed that Arévalo Carrascal's death may have been caused by smoke inhalation or burns resulting from the fire. General William René Salamanca, director of the Police, has announced a reward of up to $50 million for information leading to the capture of those responsible.

Arévalo Carrascal, who started working for the Registry in 2018, leaves behind two children, ages 13 and 7. It was reported that two other employees of the entity, as well as two police officers, were also injured in the incident.

The Registrar's Office strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing the dedication of its officials in guaranteeing a transparent and secure electoral process.
