A Venezuelan taxi driver who worked for the Indrive application was the victim of verbal and physical aggression by a Chilean passenger during a trip in Chile. According to a video circulating on social media, the driver asked the passenger to sit in the front seat to avoid a violation, since in this country many transport applications are considered illegal.
However, the situation quickly became tense when the woman discovered that the man was Venezuelan because of his accent.
The passenger repeatedly insulted him, accusing him of "sexual harassment" under the argument that she wanted to look at her legs. She also demanded that he take her to her destination, and when the driver refused and asked her to leave the vehicle, she threatened to call the Carabineros, exclaiming: "Go back to your country to commit crimes, do whatever you want."
In the midst of the insults, the woman began to take photos and record the driver while uttering offensive words such as "Shut up, you stalker." Finally, the situation reached the point where the passenger hit him in the face.
Although the images have generated outrage on social media, there are doubts about the veracity and time of the incident. The video shows a date recorded as 06/04/2021, suggesting that it occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, this version has not been able to be confirmed, since there is no news that records this event on those dates. In addition, the images do not show the use of masks, which was mandatory at that time, and there is no clear information about the exact location where the events took place.
The video has reopened the debate on xenophobia and the treatment of migrants in Chile.
