Ramón Jesurun and Son Arrested After Altercation During Copa América Final

Ramón Jesurun, president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), and his son were arrested in Miami following an altercation with security staff

The president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), Ramón Jesurun Franco, and his son, Ramón Jamil, were detained in Miami after an altercation with security personnel at Hard Rock Stadium during the Copa América final between Colombia and Argentina.

Chaos erupted at the stadium due to a large group of fans who entered without tickets, taking advantage of the disorganization and inadequate security measures. This led the police to close the stadium doors, causing stampedes and crowding that left several people, including children, injured and struggling to breathe.

The disorganization forced a delay in the start of the match by one hour and 20 minutes. After the conclusion of the match, which ended with Argentina's 1-0 victory, more altercations occurred. One of these incidents involved Ramón Jesurun and his son.

According to witnesses, Jesurun and his son were attempting to use an elevator to descend to the field for the awards ceremony when they were stopped by stadium security. The situation escalated into arguments and scuffles, which were captured in a video by Fox Sports Mexico.

Jesurun was removed from the scene by family members, while his son was restrained by others. A witness commented that the police were acting aggressively towards Colombians due to the earlier disturbances and that several had been arrested.

Police officers intervened in the altercation and arrested Ramón Jesurun and his son on charges of physical assault against an officer or employee, according to the public report.

Jesurun was absent from the award ceremonies for the Colombian and Argentine teams, as he was involved in the incident leading to his arrest. The Colombian Football Federation and its representatives have not yet issued official comments on the incident.

Attention now turns to the upcoming court appearances and the potential repercussions for Jesurun and his son within Colombian football.
