Japanese gubernatorial candidate runs dressed as the Joker

Tokyo gubernatorial candidate known for dressing up as Joker receives warning from police

Japan. – Yusuke Kawai, a candidate for governor of Tokyo, director of an event organization and temporary work agency, has generated a stir due to his similarity to the famous comic book supervillain played by Joaquin Phoenix. The 43-year-old candidate has attracted attention not only for his unusual election campaign, but also for receiving a warning from the police due to his controversial posters.

In these posters, a young naked girl is shown exposing her private parts, although covered with stickers. Kawai, known for dressing up as the famous comic book character Joker, justified his actions by arguing that he seeks to emphasize the importance of freedom of expression and change the morality of today's society.

According to local media, Kawai has added a unique touch to his political campaign: instead of traditional manifestos and speeches, he has chosen to rap to gain the support of voters.

"As the clown is kind of a dark hero, I had the impression that he could get support from the masses," Kawai explained, detailing the inspiration behind his makeup and outfit.

In one of his posts on X, Kawai warned that these posters would be posted all over Tokyo. “We will continue to make fun of this rotten society. Am I the one who is crazy? Or is it society? “He added.

Following the police warning, Kawai asked for help to remove the signs. “I hit quite a few on the first day, so it will take me a long time to remove them,” lamented the candidate.

In total, a record 56 people have registered as candidates for the race that will take place on July 7. Among them, there is also an applicant who is represented as a creation of Artificial Intelligence.

Despite the criticism, Kawai is pressing ahead with his campaign, arguing that his unique style and creative approach could resonate with voters.
