Artificial Intelligence Comes to the iPhone
The presentation of iOS 18 at WWDC 2024 marks a before and after for Apple. The company has announced a significant agreement with OpenAI, introducing "Apple Intelligence", a new era of artificial intelligence integrated into its devices. This enhanced AI will provide advanced features such as notification prioritization, image creation, content analysis and contextual suggestions, all with a strong focus on the privacy and security of data processed locally on the device.
Android Style Customization
Apple has taken a big step towards personalization with iOS 18. Now, users can customize icons with different colors, enable dark mode, and freely position them on the screen, a feature reminiscent of Android themes. The control center has also been redesigned to allow the integration of third-party applications and new shortcut pages.
Improvements in Native Applications
iOS 18 introduces multiple improvements to native applications. The Messages app now offers new text effects and emojis, while the Mail app automatically categorizes emails into Main, Transactions, News and Promotions. Security has also been beefed up with the ability to lock and hide apps using FaceID, similar to Android's Secure Folder.
New Features and Security
Apple has introduced "Tap to Cash," a feature that allows you to transfer money between iPhones using Apple Pay. The Photos app has been redesigned to improve organization and accessibility. Additionally, passwords are now managed in a dedicated app called "Passwords", which includes all keys and passkeys for applications and WiFi networks.
Siri and Apple Intelligence
Siri benefits from improvements in Apple Intelligence, offering better understanding of the context of conversations and the ability to analyze screen content. Siri also integrates ChatGPT 4o to offer more complete and contextual responses. Users will be able to interact with Siri by typing in addition to speaking, and AI features will be available for free in multiple languages throughout the year.
Availability
iOS 18 is available in beta version from today, although it is recommended to wait for the final version, which is expected to arrive in September along with the launch of the iPhone 16.
