Tulio Gómez announces his candidacy for Governor of Valle instead of Mayor of Cali

He will now face Dilian Francisca Toro, in a friendly fight for the Government of Valle

Tulio Gómez, owner of the América de Cali team, confirmed that he will not run for Mayor of Cali as he had previously announced. Instead, he will aspire to the Governorship of the Valley. According to Gómez, he made this decision due to the opinions of his daughters and the possibility of making a greater impact from the Governor's Office on issues that affect both the city and the department.

The sports leader mentioned that he has identified several candidates for mayor of Cali with whom he could establish alliances in the future. Among them he highlighted Alejandro Eder, Wilson Ruiz and Diana Rojas, whom he considers good candidates.

When questioned about his alleged inability to hold political office, Gómez clarified that he does not have any incapacity and that, in fact, he is running for the Governorship for that very reason.

In addition, he surprised by stating that he could be the person who unites the Historical Pact and the Democratic Center, since he shares the positions of both parties and could reconcile from neutrality. He explained that he supports ideas related to support for peasants and the poorest, which are defended by the Historical Pact, as well as support for business and job creation, promoted by the Democratic Center.

Tulio Gómez expressed his willingness to accept the endorsement of any party, be it the Historical Pact or the Democratic Center, highlighting his transparency and honesty as fundamental characteristics of his management. However, he clarified that he does not know if those parties would be willing to support him and that his priority is to work for the department thinking about the well-being of all.

As for her possible opponent, the former governor of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro, Gómez expressed her appreciation for her and stated that there will be no attacks from her. He acknowledged the political machinery and the recognition that the former governor has, but stressed that he has received signs of support from various candidates and former mayors who seek change in the region.

The businessman is aware that to win these elections he will have to establish alliances and, if he takes office, he promises to do so with total transparency. In less than eight days, he will make the final decision and announce it at a press conference. Tulio Gómez expressed his gratitude to Cali and the Valley, and affirmed that he wants to dedicate four years to the service of his department.
