This Wednesday, November 13, shortly before noon, a tragic accident on the Mexico-Pachuca highway, near Zapotlán de Juárez, Hidalgo, left one man dead and a woman seriously injured. The accident involved a black Audi S3 that, according to witnesses, was traveling at high speed before hitting a cargo truck and the containment barrier, leaving it completely destroyed.
The crash occurred at kilometer 72, near a gas station in Zapotlán. Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling "at more than 180 km/h," and it appears that speed was the main factor that caused the driver to lose control.
After impacting the cargo truck, the Audi crossed the lanes and was facing in the direction of Pachuca. The car was severely damaged: its roof was torn off, the hood detached and the engine barely held in place.
The violence of the crash was such that the driver died instantly due to the severity of his injuries. His companion, a woman who occupied the passenger seat, was trapped between the iron bars of the vehicle. Citizens and workers from nearby businesses rushed to the scene and used fire extinguishers to prevent the car from catching fire, while repeatedly calling 911.
Emergency crews arrived quickly, confirming the death of the driver. With the help of hydraulic equipment, paramedics managed to free the woman, who was transferred in serious condition to a nearby hospital.
The area has been cordoned off and experts have begun investigations to clarify the exact causes of the accident.
