A 27-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her workplace, a Tele2 communications salon on Stroiteley Avenue, Saratov. The attacker, identified as Azamat Iskaliev, 35 years old and originally from Kazakhstan, already had a criminal record for a similar crime, having murdered his wife three years ago. The motive for the recent murder appears to have been the victim's refusal to continue the relationship she had with Iskaliev.
The investigation has revealed that Iskaliev attacked his lover several dozen times with a knife, according to the images released by the investigators. After the crime, Iskaliev tried to flee to Novouzensk, where his relatives live.
However, law enforcement managed to intercept him in the Sovetsky district, near a cafe called the "Golden Calf", thanks to the quick action of criminal investigation officers. The attacker even went so far as to threaten the taxi driver who was transporting him.
Iskaliev's record shows a pattern of violence. In August 2021, he was convicted of stabbing and killing his 28-year-old wife, who was also seeking to separate from him. The crime occurred near Zenitnaya Street in Saratov, when the victim was attacked in her car. The forensic medical report in that case determined that death occurred from a wound to the neck that caused massive blood loss.
In addition, before the murder of his wife, Iskaliev had already been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with a knife to another person.
In November 2021, he was sentenced to nine years in prison in a maximum security colony after being found guilty of the murder of his wife by Judge Vitaly Romanov, but was released early after having signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and having gone to fight in Ukraine.
