Tourist dies in assault despite not resisting robbery

In the Yungay neighborhood, in the center of Santiago, Chile, an assault ended in tragedy last Wednesday morning, May 1. A tourist, identified as Rubén Limache Quintano, a 39-year-old Peruvian citizen, was the victim of a bloody robbery with homicide despite not offering any resistance.

The fatal incident took place at 1270 Libertad Street, when a lone criminal intercepted Quintano. Although the victim calmly handed over his belongings to the antisocial, he shot him without hesitation, causing his death instantly.

The PDI Homicide Brigade has taken over the investigation of the case and is reviewing the security cameras, which revealed that the criminal was waiting for an accomplice in a vehicle, with which they fled. So far, no arrests have been made related to this crime in the Yungay neighborhood.

The senseless event has generated outrage in society, and Mayor Evelyn Matthei expressed her dismay on social media, denouncing the act.

"You cannot call someone who acts with such a level of evil and coldness a person," she Matthei wrote. "In Barrio Yungay, a person was cowardly shot down without offering any resistance to the assault. Truly a brutality that shocks and saddens."
