Three men, including a PMT agent, lose their lives while trying to cross the Pululá River in Jalpatagua, Jutiapa
Jalpatagua, Guatemala - The pass in the Tempisque Village, Jalpatagua, Jutiapa, has been closed after the tragic death of three people who were trying to cross the Pululá River on Monday, June 17, whose waters were dangerously swollen.
The victims have been identified as Byron Antonio Aguirre Soto, Heraldo García Díaz and Brian Breivy Asencio. The population deeply mourns the loss of these three men.
In a video that went viral, you can see how Byron Aguirre tries to cross the river, being quickly dragged by the current. Heraldo García Díaz, upon seeing the situation, tries to rescue Byron but is also dragged away by the force of the water.
Finally, Brian Breivy Asencio, an agent of the Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) of San Miguel Petapa, goes to the rescue of the two men but is also overcome by the current.
Brian's father, desperate, runs to help them while shouting for the three to swim to the shore, but the force of the water prevents him from doing so and sadly, the three drown as several people look on, including Brian's father, who He watches helplessly as his son loses his life.
Heraldo García Díaz's wake took place in an atmosphere of deep sadness and respect. His father, known as "Don Heraldo", expressed with emotion: "He was always brave and generous. He gave his life trying to save another. That's what my son was."
The National Civil Police (PNC) deployed a security operation in the area to prevent more residents from trying to cross the river.
The authorities have called on the population to avoid approaching the Pululá River while the waters remain high. The PNC will continue to secure the area until conditions are safe.
