Three minors receive an electric shock from lightning in Playa de Isabela

Three children were affected by a lightning strike while playing in the sand on Montones beach, Isabela


Puerto Rico - In a tragic incident that occurred this Monday, May 27, three minors were affected by a lightning strike while they were playing in the sand on Montones beach, in Isabela. The children, who are between 7 and 12 years old, were surprised by the natural phenomenon near the Parador Villas del Mar Hau.

A 911 call alerted authorities to the emergency, and paramedic teams responded quickly to provide assistance to the minors. According to the mother of one of the children, they were playing in the sand when the incident occurred.

The minors were immediately taken to a hospital in the Aguadilla region. Of the three affected, a 12-year-old boy is in critical condition, which has generated great concern among family members.




Agent Alexis Galarza Hernández, under the supervision of Sergeant José Ruiz Ruiz of the Isabela District, was in charge of the investigation of the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the minors are residents of Toa Baja, and not tourists as initially reported.

The National Meteorological Service (SNM) of San Juan had issued flood warnings for about 12 municipalities, including Isabela, on the same Monday that the incident occurred.
