Tragic accident on Hunan bridge leaves six dead, including twin children

On the morning of September 23, 2024, a devastating traffic accident occurred on the Lusong Bridge in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province, China. A multiple car crash left six people dead, including three children, including a pair of twins, and seven other people were injured. Images of the accident showed a heartbreaking scene, with debris scattered all over the road.

The accident occurred at around 7:36 a.m. when, according to official reports, a taxi collided with a white car that was traveling in line, causing the latter to lose control. The hit vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with several cars and motorcycles, triggering a sequence of collisions that turned out to be fatal.

Witnesses at the scene described the accident. In one of the videos circulating on social media, a man is heard crying while talking on the phone, while a woman exclaimed between sobs: "It hurts so much that I can't bear to look at it!" Local authorities confirmed that the victims have already been transferred to the Zhuzhou mortuary, while the injured are being treated in nearby hospitals.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, some netizens who witnessed the accident pointed out that the driver of the white vehicle became confused when trying to brake after the taxi hit him, leading him to accelerate in the wrong direction.

This accident adds to a long list of road incidents in China, where serious traffic accidents are relatively common due to disorderly driving and safety standards that, in many cases, are insufficient.

In recent accidents, a school bus in Shandong province killed 11 people by hitting students and parents, while another vehicle in Changsha city killed eight people by hitting pedestrians in July.
