National Police Sergeant Loses His Life Trying to Foil a Robbery in Baní

Baní, Dominican Republic. Sergeant Major Eddy Calcaño Castillo, 35, died this Saturday, December 14 while trying to foil a robbery at a lottery bank located in the Brisa del Canal sector, Baní municipality, Peravia province. The National Police has identified those responsible for the crime, who remain at large, and is intensifying investigations to find their whereabouts.
According to the preliminary report from the authorities, the incident occurred in the afternoon when two individuals, Henry Felix, alias *Mantequilla*, 22 years old, and Elvin Perez, alias *Boti*, arrived at the scene on a black motorcycle.
While Henry entered the bank armed to demand money from an employee, Elvin remained vigilant in the vehicle.
Sergeant Calcaño Castillo, assigned to the South Central Investigation Subdirectorate (Dicrim), was nearby and, upon noticing the situation, tried to intervene.
However, Henry Felix opened fire on the agent, causing multiple bullet wounds. Despite repelling the attack with his service weapon, the sergeant was fatally hit and fell to the pavement, where the attacker continued shooting before fleeing the scene with his accomplice.
The perpetrators, Henry Félix and Elvin Pérez, were identified by the National Police, which has made a public appeal for them to turn themselves in to the authorities and answer for the crime. A close source confirmed that the investigations are progressing and that both individuals are said to be heavily armed.
Eddy Calcaño Castillo leaves behind two orphaned children: one aged 15 and the other only 2 years old. His body will be laid to rest in San Cristóbal, the city where he lived with his family.
