On the afternoon of Monday, December 16, a serious accident on the AL-101 North highway, near the municipality of Passo de Camaragibe, left deep marks on the sports and local community of Alagoas. Diego Fernando, a promising young Brazilian footballer and member of the CSA base, suffered a tragic accident while traveling on a motorcycle with Carlos Henrique dos Santos Silva, 15 years old. Both collided head-on with a bus after overtaking on a curve in the opposite direction.
The impact cost Carlos Henrique his life, who succumbed to his injuries while receiving care at the Regional Hospital of the North (HRN), in Porto Calvo. Diego, 15, managed to survive, but lost a significant part of his left leg, which keeps him in critical condition in the same hospital.
Witnesses reported that the motorcycle on which the young men were traveling was going at high speed when they attempted a dangerous maneuver in the direction of São Miguel dos Milagres. Videos spread on social networks show the moments of anguish immediately after the collision, with the victims calling for help.
On Tuesday 17, the CSA medical department confirmed that Diego continued to receive intensive care and had shown significant progress. The club offered its support to the player's family, who were promoting a campaign on social networks to collect blood donations of any kind.
On Wednesday 18, the CSA updated the player's health status: Diego came out of the coma, was extubated and is breathing on his own. He is also able to communicate with the medical team using gestures, assuring them that he feels fine despite the adversity.
Diego was a forward and recently participated in the final of the Alagoano Under-15 Championship, held at the Rei Pelé Stadium.
