Military police involved in attack in bar: I never thought about using the weapon

Military Police officer Danilo Oliveira Machado is under investigation for an event that occurred on June 6 in a bar in Parque Júlio César, located in the Pituba neighborhood, Salvador. The Civil Police have taken up the case after Machado, assigned to the 33rd Independent Military Police Company (CIPM/Valéria), was accused of attacking a man with punches and kicks, in addition to pointing a firearm at him.

The incident took place during the birthday of the victim, who stated that he did not remember the reason for the argument that culminated in the attack. Witnesses claim that the confrontation began after a mutual provocation, supposedly started because the aggressor was trying to show photos of deceased people to those present in the bar.

A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the man being attacked for more than four minutes. In the images you can see how the victim falls to the ground and receives a blow to the head. Three men try to intervene without success to stop the attack.

Danilo Oliveira Machado appeared to testify before the Civil Police on Thursday, June 13, five days after the altercation, accompanied by his lawyer and refused to speak to the press. In his statement, the officer alleged that he had been provoked and that at no time did he intend to use his weapon to cause serious harm to the victim.

Delegate Marita Souza, in an interview with TV Bahía, explained that the victim did not initially file a police report due to the shame of having been involved in a fight, despite the marks on her body that evidenced the assault.

However, the man filed a complaint with the Department of the Interior of the Military Police, which is already aware of the images and has launched an internal investigation into the officer's behavior.

The Department of Internal Affairs has condemned the police officer's actions and is in the process of clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident at the bar.

Witnesses have corroborated that the altercation was provoked by both parties, leading to the confrontation that was captured on video.
