Police in critical condition after confronting motorcycle jets

In a dramatic event that occurred this Friday, March 22 in the Buenos Aires district of La Matanza, Argentina, a City Police officer is torn between life and death after a shooting confrontation with two motorized criminals. The victim, identified as First Officer Luis Alberto Ortega, 37 years old and currently on leave, was shot multiple times and was hospitalized in critical condition.

The incident took place minutes before 2 p.m. in the vicinity of Alberto Lartigau Street, in the town of Villa Luzuriaga. Surveillance cameras in the area captured the moment when Ortega, leaving his residence, was surprised by armed motorcycle riders who were trying to steal his motorcycle.

Faced with the threat, Officer Ortega drew his service weapon and ordered the criminals to stop, but they responded with fire. In the exchange of shots, Ortega was seriously injured, receiving three gunshot wounds to the abdomen, buttock and left groin.

The attackers, after injuring the officer, abandoned his motorcycle and fled on foot. However, shortly after, one of the criminals with multiple gunshot wounds was admitted to the same hospital where Ortega was being treated.

The crime scene was secured by police personnel from the La Matanza Centro 6ª Los Pinos Police Station, who initiated the relevant investigations and searched the motorcycles involved. Towards the afternoon, images from security cameras were analyzed to find the whereabouts of the second criminal who is a fugitive.

Officer Ortega's health status continues to be critical.
