Motorsports in Paraguay suffered a regrettable loss this Sunday at the Rubén Dumot Racetrack, formerly known as Aratirí, located in Capiatá. Carlos Oliveira, an experienced 72-year-old Brazilian driver and businessman, died after an accident while participating in the amateur motorsport event "Track Day Paraguay".
The accident occurred on November 10, around 4:00 p.m., when Oliveira lost control of his Porsche 911 GT3 RS supercar while racing on the track.
According to preliminary investigations and recorded images, the accident was triggered when one of the tires of his vehicle touched the edge of the grass, which caused a loss of control that led him to crash violently into water barrels located on the side of the track.
Prosecutor Carolina Martínez explained in local media that there was no direct contact with the retaining wall, but that the crash occurred with the barrels, leaving one of them trapped under the rear wheel of the car.
"He could no longer steer the vehicle and completely lost control," said Martínez, who confirmed that various evidence was collected and a technical examination will be carried out to clarify the circumstances of the accident. The prosecutor also noted that, according to the organizers, the event had gone through safety checks before starting.
After the impact, Oliveira was treated by emergency personnel and taken to the San Lorenzo University Hospital, where he underwent surgery. However, due to the severity of his injuries, the driver died around 7:00 p.m.
