11-year-old boy dies after being hit by a ball

Boy dies after being hit by cricket ball while playing with friends

Pune, Maharashtra, India, is in mourning following the tragic death of Shambhu Kalidas Khandve, affectionately known as Shaurya, an 11-year-old boy who died after an accident while playing cricket with his friends during the summer vacation.

Shaurya was enjoying a lively game of cricket with his friends in Lohegaon area when the fatality occurred. While playing his role as a pitcher, a ball hit hard by one of the batsmen hit him directly on his private parts, causing a severe and sudden impact.

The blow was so forceful that Shaurya immediately collapsed on the ground, leaving his friends in a state of shock. Despite desperate attempts to revive him, Shaurya did not regain consciousness.

Bystanders intervened and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, doctors were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The Airport Police Station has registered the incident as a case of accidental death.

Medical explanation from an expert

The sudden and direct hit of a cricket ball to the testicles can cause a serious and life-threatening injury due to several factors.

The crotch houses the scrotum, which contains the testicles and other delicate tissues. A violent impact to this area can cause direct damage to the testicles, causing ruptured blood vessels, internal bleeding, and trauma to surrounding tissues.

Additionally, the extreme pain and shock caused by the impact can trigger a severe physiological response, such as a sudden drop in blood pressure or a vagal response, which can lead to cardiovascular collapse and, in extreme cases, death.
