Granddaughter Accused of Shooting Grandmother in the Face and Killing Grandfather

A case that has shocked the state of Rondônia remains under investigation after 17-year-old Lorena dos Santos was identified as the prime suspect in the shooting of her grandparents inside their family home in rural Ariquemes.

The attack resulted in the death of the grandfather, José Lucas dos Santos Filho, and left the grandmother seriously injured.

According to preliminary information from the Civil Police, the teenager called her grandparents into the living room to talk. Minutes later, she returned armed and opened fire.

The grandfather was shot in the back and died at the scene.

The grandmother was shot in the chest and mouth, but managed to survive by feigning death, which reportedly caused the shooting to stop.

Wounded and lying on the ground, she managed to send a desperate audio message via WhatsApp to a family or neighbors' group, pleading for them to call the police. This message was crucial in ensuring that help arrived quickly.

After the attack, Lorena fled the scene driving a family pickup truck, and a police operation was launched to locate her.

Later, the young woman voluntarily turned herself in to the Civil Police, accompanied by lawyers, and chose to remain silent during her statement.

Authorities are also investigating whether her boyfriend may have assisted her in the crime, although his involvement has not yet been officially confirmed, nor have any formal charges been filed against him.

Versions circulating on social media suggest a possible inheritance dispute or family conflicts, but the police have not confirmed these speculations.

As part of the family context, it was noted that the teenager's mother, Rosineide Lucas dos Santos, was murdered in 2023 in the city of Anápolis, in the state of Goiás. Following this event, Lorena went to live with her grandparents in Rondônia. Authorities emphasize that this history is part of the family's background, but does not constitute an explanation for the crime.

Police sources indicated that the cold-bloodedness of the act shocked even highly experienced officers.

The grandmother remains hospitalized under medical care.
