Woman accused of child murder smiles during arraignment

North Olmsted, Ohio - Last Monday, June 3, 2024, Julian Wood, a three-year-old boy, was murdered in the parking lot of a Giant Eagle supermarket in North Olmsted, Ohio.

The attack was carried out by Bionca Ellis, who used a knife to attack Julian and his mother. Julian died from his injuries, while his mother managed to survive thanks to the quick intervention of paramedics.

According to surveillance cameras, Ellis had stolen two knives from another store before stalking his victims. The images of the moment in which the charges are handed down show Ellis smiling and casting mocking glances at the camera, which has caused outrage and debate among Internet users.

During the hearing, Ellis appeared indifferent, looking at the ceiling and other parts of the courtroom, and declaring "not guilty" when the judge asked her opinion of the charges.

Ellis faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, murder, attempted murder, felonious assault, child endangerment, tampering with evidence and petit theft.

Bail has been set at $5 million. The woman was arrested minutes after the attack thanks to a witness who followed her and alerted the police.

"That day a week ago, he took everything from us. There is nothing that can replace my son or anything that my wife and I, even our other children, are going through. It's horrendous."

"I really don't want any bail or any period. Extend it to the maximum possible limit that you can, at the very least. Just do everything you can to keep this monster behind bars."
