Hippopotamus dies in a vehicle accident in Puerto Triunfo, Antioquia
The occupants of the car were injured and are being treated
A hippopotamus believed to have escaped from the Hacienda Nápoles in Antioquia, Colombia, died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in Puerto Triunfo.
The incident occurred on the Medellín-Bogotá highway, where a private vehicle collided with the animal, which weighed more than 1,500 kilos.

Although the hippo died immediately, the occupants of the vehicle were injured and are being treated at a medical center.

The mayor of the town reported that relief agencies arrived at the scene to deal with the emergency and that the environmental authorities will investigate why the animal was on the highway.

It should be noted that an agreement was recently formalized to transfer 60 hippos from the Hacienda Nápoles to Mexico and India.
