Young Mother Bleeds to Death After Taking a Photo with Her Newborn
A young Romanian mother died after postoperative complications following a scheduled cesarean section. The family demands answers
What was supposed to be one of the happiest days for the Bănulescu family ended in unexpected tragedy. Luiza Bănulescu, a 24-year-old mother from Roșia de Amaradia, died just hours after giving birth to her third child via cesarean section at Novaci Hospital. The young woman managed to pose for a few photos with her newborn before massive hemorrhage took her life.
The delivery had been scheduled, and according to preliminary tests, Luiza was healthy and had no medical history of concern. After the birth, she was able to spend a moment of intimacy with her baby, holding him close to her chest while photographs were taken. However, just an hour after delivery, doctors detected severe bleeding that quickly spiraled out of control.

For three hours, the medical team tried unsuccessfully to stem the bleeding. Given the seriousness of the situation, they decided to transfer her to Târgu Jiu County Hospital. “Upon arrival, the patient was in a coma and on mechanical ventilation,” explained hospital spokesperson Mihaela Țicleanu.
With no improvement, Luiza was again sent to a specialized clinic in Craiova. Although her condition required urgent helicopter transfer, weather conditions prevented this procedure, so she was taken by ambulance.
The family reports significant delays during this process. Her husband, Claudiu Bănulescu, recounted: “They had the doctor on call, but he couldn't leave. They had to call a doctor from home, and that took about an hour.”
Unfortunately, by the time she arrived at the third hospital, there was nothing the doctors could do to save her life. Her death has left a family devastated.

Luiza leaves behind not only her newborn, still hospitalized, but also her twin daughters, aged just 1 year and 11 months. Her husband, Claudiu, who also has a son from a previous marriage, hopes to be able to take the baby home soon.
The family has announced that they will file a formal complaint. "How can it be fair that a young, healthy woman should die like this, when everything seemed fine?" the widower said indignantly.
Authorities have already launched an investigation at Novaci Hospital to determine whether there was medical negligence or failures in protocol.
Luiza's autopsy will be performed in the coming days, and her burial will take place this Sunday, July 13, in her hometown.
