A 26-year-old Algerian migrant, Mohammed Amana, has been sentenced to two years in prison for a violent attack in Sweden in which he stabbed his ex-girlfriend's friend with a kitchen knife. The incident took place in May this year in the small town of Orrefors, Nybro municipality, Sweden, after Amana's ex-partner broke up with him.
Amana entered the apartment where his ex-girlfriend and his friend were temporarily staying. Using a ladder to access the balcony and a stone to break the balcony window, he entered the apartment armed with a kitchen knife. The ex-girlfriend's friend recorded the incident on her mobile phone, capturing footage of Amana outside the bathroom door where the woman had taken refuge, threatening to kill her and vowing to rape her mother.
When the friend tried to intervene and arrest Amana, he was stabbed in the neck and hand, sustaining serious injuries. Amana was arrested after the attack, claiming that he had heard voices urging him to enter the apartment, but he claimed not to remember the details of the incident and denied stabbing the friend.
Amana's criminal history included prior convictions for aggravated assault, violence, robbery and drug offenses. In addition, a deportation order had been issued that was never carried out, and he was ordered to leave the country in 2018. Despite this, Amana continued to commit crimes in Sweden prior to the attack.
The Kalmar District Court found Amana guilty of aggravated assault, aggravated trespass and serious illegal threats on August 16 this year, sentenced him to two years in prison and imposed a 10-year ban on returning to Sweden once to serve his sentence. The sentence also includes Amana's deportation.
