SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL - Authorities in Sunny Isles Beach have taken 29-year-old Yulia Storozhuk into custody after she was caught on video violently assaulting her three-year-old child. The shocking footage, which quickly spread among community members, displays a disturbing scene where Storozhuk hits and throws her son onto the floor of a residential hallway.
The incident, recorded in the 17000 block of North Bay Road, was reported to the police last Tuesday night, thanks to a neighbor who provided the security camera footage. Upon arrival, officers found the child with multiple bruises, evidence of the suffered violence.
During her arrest, Storozhuk claimed her reaction was due to her son's insistence on playing and his challenging behavior. In her statement before the bond court, the woman expressed remorse, stating that she had come to South Florida fleeing the conflict in Ukraine and had never lost control in such a way before.
The judge has issued a restraining order forbidding Storozhuk any contact with the child. The Sunny Isles Beach police spokesperson highlighted the crucial role of the neighbor who reported the abuse, suggesting their action may have saved the child's life.
The accused faces charges of child abuse, and her bail has been set at $5,000. Meanwhile, the footage of the assault, showing the woman acting with extreme violence towards her child, has sparked outrage and concern for the well-being of the young boy.
Controversial Facebook post
In a startling revelation, it has come to light that the Ukrainian mother, now facing criminal charges, had sought employment as a nanny in 2022 through a Facebook group. Within her post, she professed to have substantial experience in child care, citing the upbringing of her own child as evidence.
However, in light of the recent events, community members on the social platform have expressed grave concerns, commenting on the post with trepidation. They pointed out the disturbing discrepancy between her self-proclaimed caregiving skills and the abusive behavior toward her child, casting doubt on her suitability to care for others’ children.
The Sunny Isles Beach community is shocked by such a display of violence, especially when it involves a mother toward her own child. Authorities have emphasized that Storozhuk will be held accountable for her actions, while the Department of Children and Families has started its own investigation and taken custody of the child.
