Thieves kill retired military police during assault on Oxxo store
Two people responsible for the assault on the store were captured, but the police are searching for the perpetrator of the crime
In an act of senseless violence, two criminals broke into an Oxxo store in Vila Tatuí, Tatuapé, east of São Paulo, Brazil, and shot and killed retired second lieutenant Paulo Eduardo Ramalho, 57, who at the time was I found myself as a customer in line at the establishment.
Those responsible, identified as Cauan Santos Silva, 19 years old, João Vitor Cabelo Conrado, 24 years old, and a third party known as "Cabeleira" who was wearing an orange cap, announced the robbery, disarmed the former soldier and, upon realizing his condition, they shot him in the head. The tragic incident occurred on Monday, November 20.
According to the police report, the gold chain around Paulo Eduardo's neck caught the attention of the criminals. During the assault, the criminals realized that the victim was a retired police officer, which triggered the fatal shot. In addition to taking his life, the attackers took the former military police officer's weapon, wallet and chain.
Paulo Eduardo was rescued in a very serious condition and rushed to the Tatuapé Municipal Hospital, where he unfortunately died from his injuries.
The case was registered as a completed robbery in Police District 53, in Parque do Carmo. The second lieutenant retired from the Military Police in 2015 and lived a few minutes from the store where the tragedy occurred.
After a quick police response, the Tobías de Aguiar Ostensive Rounds (Rota), an elite unit of the Military Police, managed to locate the car used by the criminals in their escape. A chase broke out, culminating in the accident of the vehicle in Jardim Santa Terezinha, also in the Eastern Zone. Two of the criminals were arrested, the weapon used in the crime was confiscated, while a third suspect managed to escape.
This Tuesday, November 21, two of the detainees saw their detention converted into preventive detention, while the police continue the search for the third person involved in this tragic murder known as "Cabeleira", who is presumed to be the author of the shot that killed to Paulo Eduardo.
