19-year-old murders two women before taking his own life
Police found a disturbing drawing in his home and remains of the deceased on the walls of Edirnekapı
Istanbul is in shock after a shocking incident that occurred on October 4, when Semih Çelik, a 19-year-old butcher, committed two murders in less than an hour and then took his own life. The events occurred in the districts of Eyüpsultan and Fatih, where the victims, both also 19 years old, were killed.
The first victim was Ayşenur Halil, who was Çelik's ex-girlfriend. The young man slit her throat in a deadly attack in Eyüpsultan. He then went to Fatih, where he murdered İkbal Uzuner, a schoolmate with whom he was obsessed. According to investigations, after killing Uzuner, he divided her body into six parts.
Semih Çelik climbed the walls of Edirnekapı carrying with him parts of the bodies of his victims. In a scene that stunned witnesses, he threw the head of one of the young women from the top of the walls before jumping into the void. Witnesses present captured some of these moments on video.
After the attacker's death, the police began a thorough search of the walls, managing to recover Uzuner's remains. During the search of the young killer's home, police teams found a disturbing notebook with a pencil drawing, which reinforces the hypothesis that the second murder was premeditated.
Other unusual items such as Christian symbols and a statue of Jesus were also found, fueling theories about Çelik's obsession.
Investigations also revealed that Çelik had received psychological treatment five times so far this year and had already been reported missing twice, in addition to a previous attempt to take his own life. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an exhaustive investigation to clarify all the details.
