Young barber loses his life resisting an assault at his workplace

On November 28, in the afternoon, an assault occurred in a barbershop located near the Túpac Amaru de Villa park, in Chorrillos, Lima. An armed man entered the premises with the intention of stealing the belongings of the workers and clients. Among those present was Antoni Yumbato Panduro, who tried to defend himself from the criminal, resulting in his death.

Security cameras recorded how the assailant, of Venezuelan nationality, demanded money and cell phones from the four people who were in the place. While some managed to hide, Antoni, in an act of bravery or fear of losing his cell phone, confronted the criminal, who shot him in the chest and head.

After committing the crime, the assailant quickly fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

Antoni had arrived in Lima a year ago from Requena, Loreto, with the goal of studying Nursing. He came from a low-income family and worked in the barbershop to pay for his studies. According to his relatives, he was a hard-working young man committed to his goals.

"He was a good boy, with no problems with anyone. He dreamed of helping his family," said his cousin Xiomara Torres through tears.

The tragedy did not end there. Upon receiving the news of Antoni's death, one of his uncles suffered such a strong emotional impact that he died hours later. "It is a double pain for us. We lost Antoni and my uncle," said his cousin, who asked for support to transport the young man's body to his homeland.

Antoni's family is facing financial difficulties to cover the costs of the transfer and burial. "His mother is devastated and cannot come. Only his father is traveling to Lima," added an aunt of the young man, asking for help from the authorities and the community.

This crime once again shows the serious insecurity affecting Lima, even under the state of emergency declared in several districts of the capital. Neighbors in the area have previously reported extortions and robberies in the barbershop where the murder occurred, but this case has shocked everyone.

Authorities have begun investigations, reviewing security cameras to identify those responsible. However, Antoni's relatives demand immediate justice and strong actions to stop the growing wave of crime.
