Outrage on social media over controversial comments: CSIC takes action

The CSIC removes an employee in Granada after a comment on social media about a minor that sparked social outrage on the X network (formerly Twitter)

A comment on social media, considered inappropriate by thousands of users, has generated outrage and provoked drastic measures by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). The employee José Rubí Villegas, a CSIC worker at the Zaidín Experimental Station in Granada, was removed from his position while the relevant investigations are carried out, as confirmed by the institution in an official statement.

The controversy arose when, last Monday, Rubí, identified on social media as Sekki Tauros, made a post on X (formerly Twitter) describing an incident in a gym locker room.

In this story, he explicitly mentioned a three-year-old child, which generated a torrent of criticism for the content of the message, described as "inappropriate" and "violent" by users.

After the outbreak on social networks, Internet users began to investigate the identity of the author of the comment, identifying him as a CSIC biochemist. The publication quickly went viral, generating calls from users for the institution to take action and evaluate the seriousness of the case. Faced with social pressure, José Rubí Villegas deleted his X and Instagram accounts, but this did not prevent the controversy from continuing to grow.

According to the Granada-based media IDEAL, the CSIC's reaction was not long in coming. In a statement, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to ethical values, social responsibility and respect for the rights of minors.

"The Council has decided to remove the worker while the necessary investigations are carried out to clarify the facts," the institution said, making it clear that it will not tolerate behavior that violates ethical and social principles.

Meanwhile, the case of José Rubí Villegas continues to be the subject of public and media attention, with many questions still unanswered.
