Victims of armed attack in restaurant in Guatemala identified

Last Friday, October 11, a massacre in a restaurant located in a gas station in El Cerinal, Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala, resulted in the death of four people.

The victims were identified as Wendy Nayeli Peñas Godínez (23 years old), Sabdi Antonia Méndez Parada (22 years old), Diego Alejandro Chajón Pérez (23 years old) and Lester Humberto Ortega Orozco (21 years old). Two of the victims, both women, were found hugging each other behind the restaurant counter.

The attack occurred around 4:00 p.m., when armed men entered the establishment and opened fire on the diners who were there.

Security camera footage captured the moment when a black vehicle and a motorcycle parked outside the gas station. Shortly after, one of the attackers entered the restaurant and began shooting without saying a word, followed by his accomplices, who continued the shooting.

According to reports from the firefighters who responded to the scene, the victims were no longer showing vital signs at the time of their arrival, due to the multiple bullet wounds they received in the chest and abdomen.

The restaurant was covered in shell casings, evidencing the magnitude of the attack. A gas station worker managed to flee upon hearing the shots, while the victims' relatives suffered nervous breakdowns after the incident.

It is speculated that the attack could be related to a settling of scores, although this information has not been officially confirmed. In addition, witnesses indicated that the victims were consuming alcoholic beverages at the time of the attack. Videos of the shooting began to circulate on social media three days after the event.

Authorities are using surveillance camera recordings to identify those responsible and clarify the motive behind this massacre. The Public Prosecutor's Office and the Civil Police are working intensively to gather evidence and testimonies to find the perpetrators of the crime.
