A tragic event shocked the Longtan district in Taoyuan, Taiwan, located 200 km southeast of mainland China, when a 40-year-old man lost his life after accidentally shooting himself with an illegal gun in the presence of his guests. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, involves an individual surnamed Tsai (蔡), who was showing the gun to a friend surnamed Su (蘇) and his two children at his residence. .
Tsai, who was involved in organized crime activities, was trying to prove that the gun, which he had been working on, was not operational. However, after a first failed shooting attempt, he put the gun to his forehead and pulled the trigger again, resulting in his fatal shooting. The scene was recorded by a camera in the room and the video quickly spread online, adding a disturbing element to the already grim narrative.
Tsai's wife, alerted by the gunshot, found her husband seriously injured and although he immediately called emergency services, Tsai was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at a local hospital. His and his children, witnesses to the event, showed a reaction of shock and panic before fleeing the scene.
Longtan police have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the illegal pistol and the details of the incident. An initial report suggested that Tsai and those present were not affiliated with any organized crime group; However, more recent information revealed that Tsai was a member of the Tiger Division of the Bamboo Union in Taoyuan, and that Su, the friend present, was a criminal wanted by the authorities for other crimes.
