Guatemalan tiktoker Farruko Pop found dead

Guatemala City, May 27, 2024 — Guatemalan authorities confirmed the discovery of the body of Jorge Sebastián Pop Chocoj, known as Farruko Pop, a popular 18-year-old TikToker and singer. The young man was found buried in a home in the northern area of Guatemala City, five days after being reported missing. The Public Ministry of Guatemala has indicated that his body showed signs of violence and that the cause of death was strangulation, according to the report from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences of Guatemala (INACIF).

Farruko Pop, known for his comedy and music content on social networks, was ready to participate in the casting of the talent show "La Academia" on TV Azteca. The news of his tragic death has shocked thousands of followers who took to the streets of Guatemala City to say goodbye to him. "Farrukito, wherever you are you have achieved something great," could be heard among the crowd.

Ongoing Investigation and Arrests

Jorge Pop was reported missing on May 20, after leaving his brothers' home in zone 1 of Guatemala City. Authorities collected videos showing his route, which included a taxi and a motorcycle taxi that took him to zone 18, an area known for its high rates of violence and gang presence. His body was found on May 25 in a house in that area, along with a red cap that he was wearing on the day of his disappearance, an electricity bill in his name and his mobile phone turned off.

The Court on Duty decided to link Carlos Roberto López Ortiz to criminal proceedings, accused of participating in the death of Farruko Pop. López Ortiz is being investigated for his own concealment and other related crimes.
