Body of young Venezuelan woman found in Temuco: her partner is the main suspect

The body of the young woman was found after more than a week of disappearance. Her partner is currently in preventive detention

The discovery of the body of Sarais González, a 22-year-old Venezuelan woman, in an apartment in the Milano condominium, in the Amanecer sector of Temuco, has started an investigation for possible femicide. Carabineros confirmed that the victim had been missing for more than a week before being found dead in the home of her partner, who is currently in preventive detention for another case of violence.

González had traveled from Maipú to Temuco and lost contact with her family for more than a week. Given the lack of answers, her relatives decided to move to the city in search of her. Once there, they learned that her partner, Jason Barrio, also Venezuelan, had been arrested on Tuesday for having attacked a man, causing him to lose an eye.

The desperation led the victim's sister to enter the apartment on her own, climbing the outside of the building. It was then that she found the lifeless body of Sarais González in an advanced state of decomposition, with multiple stab wounds.

Jason Barrio, identified as the main suspect, has not been formally charged with the murder of González, although the authorities consider him a subject of interest in the investigation.

Currently, he is in preventive detention for the attack on another man. In addition, the prosecutor of Temuco, Juan Pablo Salas, reported that Barrio did not have a regular immigration status in Chile, which led the authorities to request a provisional RUT during his formalization.

The police continue to gather evidence to clarify the crime, while the background indicates the participation of third parties in the murder of the young woman. Due to the state of the body, it is presumed that the death occurred the weekend before the discovery.

The family of Sarais González, immersed in grief, demands justice and answers about what happened. The authorities will continue with the investigations to determine responsibilities and advance in the judicialization of the case.
