A guard on duty shoots himself during live broadcast, his hope was to collect donations from stars
Zamboanga City, Philippines – A tragic event has struck the Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology (ZSCMST) when a security guard shot himself while live broadcasting. The incident occurred on July 25 at 2:03 a.m.
The victim has been identified as Jerome Dumayug Dumanggad, 32, a resident of Sun Street, Barangay Tumaga. Dumanggad was employed under the agency Golden Sun Security.
According to the investigation conducted by the police and Barangay Rio Hondo officers, Jerome had recently had an altercation with his partner who lives in Manila. Also, a disturbing Facebook post made by the victim a day before his death is being considered. The post read, “I’m in a lot of pain, it’s serious. What could it be? I don’t have money for a checkup.”
Jerome had recently visited the hospital for a checkup and was distraught due to his illness and lack of funds for treatment. These issues aggravated the strain on his relationship and his health issues might have contributed to his decision to end his life.
Amidst his depression over health and money issues, while doing his surveillance shift, Jerome started a Facebook live stream hoping to receive support in the form of donations from stars to raise money for his plight. Realizing that he did not receive the support he expected, he decided on the spot to shoot himself.
Authorities from the 11th Precinct and Rio Hondo Barangay officers are continuing their investigation to further clarify the details.
