Explosion leaves extortionist injured in Independencia: neighbors identify him

Independencia, Peru – An extortion attempt ended in tragedy when an explosive detonated prematurely in the hands of the criminal, causing serious injuries to his body.

The incident occurred in the district of Independencia, specifically on Jirón Los Cocos, around 11 p.m. The man, identified as a neighbor of zone 4 of the settlement ‘El Ermitaño’, tried to manipulate an explosive device during an extortion attack in zone 3, but the device exploded earlier than expected.

The impact of the explosion caused the loss of several fingers on one of his hands and serious damage to other parts of his body, including his genital area.

Stunned and injured, the man fled the scene to seek help at home, where his mother was the first to assist him. He was later transferred to the Cayetano Heredia Hospital, where he remains in police custody due to his criminal record.

Neighbors in the area recognized the criminal as a known extortionist in the area, which allowed his quick identification by the authorities.

The case continues to be investigated by the police, while residents of the district ask for stricter measures to guarantee their safety in the area.
